Yesterday, we were in Flic-en-Flac to enjoy the carnival! I took many pictures and I’ve just uploaded them to Flickr for your enjoyment. The costumes were very interesting (e.g. the African tribe), the Brazilian dancers and musicians were great (and very photographer friendly) and the various Misses all beautiful (with a special mention to the Indian Miss naturally!).
The traffic though was absolutely abysmal.
It took more than one and a half hour to get there as there were simply too many cars converging to Flic-en-Flac. And, at the end of the carnival, the traffic jams were the worst I’ve ever experienced in my life! Whoever decided that the carnival was going to be held in Flic-en-Flac (which has the peculiarity of being served by one road only) and didn’t plan for the traffic did an act of negligence. It was a nightmare!
Once again, planning was lacking.

Agreed on the fact that the location was not the best.
Grand Bay for instance has different entry and exit points but I guess that organiser found “Carnaval de Flic En Flac” more pleasing to their ears than “Carnaval de Grand Baie”.
As for the canaval and the Mauritius Shopping Fiesta, were they economically viable and beneficial for the tourism industry?

There were quite a lot of tourists yesterday but it seems to me that most of them were “sac à dos” tourists. As for the shopping fiesta, I wasn’t aware that one had started yesterday :-)

The only reason we did not go was we knew the traffic was gonna be like hell. Even on a ‘normal’ Sunday afternoon the way out of FenF is awful, now imagine….
As for the shopping fiesta, I wonder how it could help since there seems to be a permanent drought in most pockets for vital things..now shopping fiesta…lol!

100% right :-)

Some thing that bothers me every day how come an Island like Mauritius close at 1900.
Mauritians are scared to go out.
