We, Mauritians, will elect the people who will represent us in the Parliament for the next five years. I know politics might seem bizarre for young people as our politicians are so disconnect to (and somewhat clueless of) the kind of life the new generation has now. Heck, even I don’t relate to most of them, even though I’m 36…
But, and this is a major but, voting is a right and a duty. Our votes count.
So don’t forget to vote on 5 May 2010. Who knows? Maybe we’ll discover our own Mauritian Barack Obama in the process.
yeah maybe. Hope so lol but wouldn`t count on that. Does appear uneven this time on paper but we`ll see.
Kinda weird tho, you say you don`t relate to them but consider it a duty to vote,I agree with you. But from what I see, many(the younger they get) consider it worthless. I guess as time passes the politicians will have to change cause the next generation will not be just another piece of cake.
It believe that politicians can stand low, I mean in terms of provocations, using ethnicities etc.. cause deep down, it is part of the “folklore” and in a way, we get what we want. So if the people change, politicians will move on together. Just an opinion, I never really perceived any of the leaders as racists or something, it is just a way to win for some of them, all fair game to them, never a question of belief. It is never profound.
Will be interesting too see what this election brings. Go for obama then. :D
Agreed. It is our duty to vote, out of respect for those who fought for our right to vote and for those who are still struggling to have some kind of democracy in their country.
If you don’t agree with any party or candidate you have the right to put in a blank bulletin to show your disagreement with them as abstainers are considered to be in agreement with the winner.
