Liverpool is strong but journalists plagiarise

22 March 2009 By Avinash Meetoo 35 Comments

20090322-gerrard-torres

I’ve just finished watching Liverpool beat Aston Villa 5-0. Liverpool is currently second in the league with the best goal average and has 1 point less than Manchester United (who still have one match in hand.)

Winning the league for the 19th time depends, of course, on Manchester United losing or drawing a few matches. But who knows what is going to happen in the next few weeks. What I know is that being a Liverpool fan right now is cool: beating Real Madrid 4-0, Manchester United 4-1 and now Aston Villa 5-0. Of course, Liverpool being Liverpool, it is possible that we’ll lose the next match against Fulham :-)

Plagiarism

By the way, have you noticed this? From today’s edition of Week-End:

Après avoir enchainé quinze matchs toutes compétitions sans défaite, Manchester United (1er) vient d’en perdre deux de suite en Premier League, une première depuis quatre ans (en 2005, Norwich et Everton consécutivement avaient battu MU.) Humilié la semaine passée par Liverpool à Old Trafford (1-4), MU s’est incliné cette fois-ci à Fulham (2-0) qui n’avait plus battu Manchester à Craven Cottage depuis 1964.

From today’s edition of L’Express Dimanche:

Après avoir enchainé quinze matchs toutes compétitions sans défaite, Manchester United (1er) vient d’en perdre deux de suite en Premier League, une première depuis quatre ans (en 2005, Norwich et Everton consécutivement avaient battu MU.) Humilié la semaine passée par Liverpool à Old Trafford (1-4), MU s’est incliné cette fois-ci à Fulham (2-0) qui n’avait plus battu Manchester à Craven Cottage depuis 1964.

Bloody hell! Both are the same and are directly copied from L’Équipe without any acknowledgement at all! This is plagiarism and copyright infringement. It’s pathetic how unprofessional and unethical some people have become.

The football matches were pretty awesome…
Though I am not a great fan of football matches, I did enjoy watching Man Utd losing against Liverpool and Fulham. And today’s match was just WOW :D

*Man Utd Ine Encaisse 1 Demi-Douzaine Goals Ek 1 Quart Douzaine Cartes Rouges Dan 1 Semaine*

    hehe

    Cheers

25 ans apres!!!

    Pas mal non?

Liverpool is going strong these days…

About the plagiarism thing, this happens often. And yes they never cite their sources. I cannot understand why anyone would do this. :S

Indeed, this has always been the case. They always copied from International media website and published it in their newspaper.

also Liverpool doesn’t seem to get the credit they deserve, when Man utd beat Big teams or have a nice record, you can hear newspapers talking about that for weeks but when liverpool does so, then in a matter of just 2 days, that seems history

Also when MAN UTD are beaten, no faults are removed but when LFC lose, then all the media question the tactics of Benitez, commitments of players etc…

    e.g : Portsmouth match

  5. avinash says

    23 March 2009 at 17:46

True. But this is because SAF has managed, over his 25 year long reign, to “buy” most of the journalists in the Sports business. Maybe RB is planning to do the same. Who knows?

Lekip writes really good articles.. even on their blog! Its always fun to read!

    *shame @ plagiarism!*

Being a die hard LFC fan im really very happy! but it sure wont be a surprise it LFC looses its next match.. :P as you so well said it..

Who would have believed.. a team beaten by Middlesborough(team in danger of relegation) would beat real, manU(home) and rape villa @ anfield.

    XD

Perharps you should check out my blog someday.. :P its a nice place to be for LFC fans..

    23 March 2009 at 19:30

    Indeed!
Btw yesterday during the match, Riera did a world class flip over Milner near the corner flag but none of the commenters commented about that or showed replays but if it was Ronaldo, am sure they would have talked about that Millions of times

  8. selven says

    23 March 2009 at 21:59

its not the first time, specially those science or tech reviews in news papers are also plagiarized a lot!

as for the liverpool stuff… et ca recommence!

enfin, good for your team! Enfin, shit happens! :p we are still on the top la!

  9. Patrick Ng says

    23 March 2009 at 22:20

I don’t understand these journalists. There was not need to plagiarise. How hard was it to find their own words to describe these events?

  10. avinash says

    23 March 2009 at 22:38

    To Selven:

Just read this on a website somewhere. SAF definition of tactics: “Give to ball to Ronaldo.” Unfortunately, he forgot that Ronaldo can be man marked and nullified by a strong enough and tactically aware enough player. The fact that Manchester United is ahead of Liverpool is only because of Liverpool’s draws against the lesser teams.

    To Patrick:

    Maybe they’re incompetent.

  11. h2o says

    24 March 2009 at 10:16

The truth is that Liverpool has had two excellent weeks whereas Manchester United has had two excellent decades…

Liverpool: 2nd in the premier league and champions league quarter finalist

Manchester United: 1st in the premier league, semi-finalist of the FA Cup, Champions league quarter finalist, World Club Champions, League Cup Champions

    truth hurts…

  12. avinash says

    24 March 2009 at 13:16

Truth (when truncated) does not really hurt.

Manchester may have had two excellent decades but Liverpool has been a major club for 110 years now. Liverpool won its first league in 1900-1901 after all. Since then Liverpool has amassed:

    • 18 League Championships (17 for your team)
    • 5 Champions League Cups (3 for your team)

    and

    • 15 Charity Shields (17 for your team)
    • 7 FA Cups (11 for your team)
    • 7 League Cups (3 for your team)
    • 3 UEFA Cups (0 for your team)
    • 3 UEFA Super Cups (1 for your team)
    • 1 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup (1 for your team)

which makes Liverpool the most successful club in England. Does this (non-truncated) truth hurt?

But, to be frank, that’s not the point. What is important is that Liverpool and Manchester United are the only two great teams in England. Arsenal is a distant next. But Chelsea is very far behind in terms of success.

Liverpool and Manchester United are in the same league as, for example, Real Madrid, Milan AC, Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam. All of them are excellent teams with a great history and I’m sure the managers and the players have enormous respect for each other. For example, when Liverpool destroyed Real Madrid 4-0 the other day, Raul, who is a legend there, said “We had a lot of desire to do well in this game, but in the end, all we can do is congratulate Liverpool because they have shown that they were better than us in all aspects.” If the score was the other way round, I think Gerrard would have said something similar. Great player have class.

Unfortunately, a lot of football fans in Mauritius (and this, unfortunately, includes a lot of Liverpool fans too in addition to a lot of the Manchester United fans) have no class. They have no respect for each other. And, by doing so, they insult the memory of the great players of the past. And also, in a way, they insult the small 4-5 years old kids who are going to be the stars of tomorrow.

That’s why I prefer watching football alone now.

Manchester United is still at the top of the table.. :P..

    Plz check this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League

Cant see liverpool in the list!!!LOL…

  14. avinash says

    30 March 2009 at 07:59

    Look here.

You’ll find Liverpool’s name mentioned more than the one of your team. Football existed before 1992, don’t you know? Interestingly, SAF joined Manchester United in 1984 (were you born?) and, since, has not yet equalled Liverpool.

  15. Lovvy says

    30 March 2009 at 17:30

Well, Liverpool has won so many titles because there were very weak teams before. Everyone knows about this. But during the recent years the title was tough to win, Liverpool failed to get any of them

But I agree Liverpool FC has great players like Gerard, Torres and Kuyt.

  16. avinash says

    30 March 2009 at 22:32

Do you really believe that Liverpool won 18 titles because teams were very weak before?

If this is the case, then I think you really have to pay a visit to a psychiatrist. I am not joking.

  17. Lovvy says

    30 March 2009 at 22:48

lol.. no comments… Liverpool greatos, ok..

  18. avinash says

    31 March 2009 at 11:19

Great. I can see that you are coming to your senses. Liverpool greatos. But so is Manchester United. And Real Madrid. And Milan AC. And Bayern Munich. And Ajax. Those are not only football teams. They are institutions with a rich and proud history and all football fans must be respectful of their achievements.

Football is not war. Football is not about bragging. Football is just the quintessential beautiful game. But, here in Mauritius, we tend to forget that.

  19. Anikka says

    31 March 2009 at 23:10

Gee, I love some good-natured football banter! :D

I just came across this, and it automatically brought a smile to my lips coz it reminded me of THAT victory over the Mancs not so long ago! (Not that i forgot about it!) I wore my Liverpool scarf to uni for 2 weeks after that, drove the mancs mad!! They kept trying to explain that the defeat was part of Sir Alex Boozenose’s strategy to win the league! Lol!!

Concerning Liverpool not getting the credit they deserve in the media, i’d like to refer you to Bob Harris’ articles for Week-End every Sunday. I get incensed every time i read those! Whenever Liverpool lose, its coz of Rafa’s rotation policy, not enough English players in the squad, too many spanish ones in it, the Academy not producing enough youngsters, etc. But when we win, it’s pure luck, of course! The other team was so bad that anyone could have beaten them. Liverpool did not do THAT great a job, it’s no big deal!

Grrrrrrr!!!!! He drives me up the wall, that one! That’s why i’ll never forget when he ended up with egg all over his face! Once, before Liverpool were to play Birmingham City (he’s a Brum fan) in the FA Cup (i think), he predicted brum would hold us to a 1-1 draw. Hah!! We hammered them 7-0!!! You could practically see his face burning in his next article!

See?? Never mess with Liverpool! Coz when we’re mad, we’re REALLY mad!!!

    YNWA!

  20. avinash says

    1 April 2009 at 11:14

Once more, it’s not really about being mad.

Rather, I find it disturbing that a lot of Manchester United fans (and this includes that Bob Harris guy) have no respect for Liverpool. For me, someone who has no respect for an opponent is not worthy of calling himself/herself a football fan (and he/she misses the point that it’s just a game.) Like I wrote above, football is a game. It’s not war.

Well, well, well. I just noticed an example of plagiarism in England too, although I don’t know who committed the office between the two (Skysports and Sportinglife).

    Skysports:

Much is made of the importance of confidence in football and Liverpool have been stacking that commodity in recent weeks.

    Sportinglife:

Much is made of the importance of confidence in football and Liverpool have been stacking that commodity like beans in Tesco this past month.

  27. avinash says

    18 May 2009 at 23:33

You’re right. Beating Manchester United and Chelsea twice does not serve any purpose when you can only draw with Stoke (twice!) I guess that Liverpool needs to learn how to beat smaller teams on a more consistent basis. Anyway, with only 2 defeats (I know there still is a match left), Liverpool has had a great season… except for those two bloody matches against Stoke and that pathetic defeat against Middlesbrough! When I think that Gerrard scored in the 1st minute against Stoke to have his goal refused because of a non-existent offside. Who knows what could have happened if that goal was accepted at that time?!?
