It is not easy for a young football player to earn his place into the Liverpool first team and, over the years, many promising young men have failed to do so. Some of them have had good careers elsewhere and some have not.
Some weeks ago, Liverpool released seven young players: three goalkeepers, Jacob Poytress, Jakub Ojrzynski and Reece Trueman, three defenders, Harry Evers, Lee Jonas and Louis Enahoro-Marcus and one midfielder, Dominic Corness.
While Liverpool has an excellent academy with players who are 16 years old and above, there are still a few players who are more than 21 and, rationally, will not be able to enter the first team. They will probably be released when their contract ends or they might be transferred to smaller clubs.
They are Fabian Mrozek (a goalkeeper), Calvin Ramsay (a right back who came to Liverpool with a good reputation but has faded into relative obscurity), Owen Beck and James Norris (two left backs who will not be able to compete with our existing left backs and Milos Kerkez), the famous Rhys Williams (a centre back who, with Nathaniel Philipps, was glorious during the 2020–2021 season when all the senior centre backs were injured), Luca Stephenson (a defensive midfielder) and James Balagizi (a central midfielder).
I believe that Tyler Morton, as a defensive midfielder, still can prove its worth to the team (especially with an aging Wataru Endo).
There is also the special case of Harvey Elliott. He is very talented and was just voted player of the tournament for the Euro U21 2025 tournament which England won. Unfortunately, there are at least two big players ahead of him in the team, Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai, and rumours are that he is going to leave.
(As for Federico Chiesa (a right winger playing in the same position of Mohamed Salah) and Darwin Núñez (a striker who, unfortunately, does not score enough for a team like Liverpool), they are on the way out and proper replacements will be needed either this season or the next).
