Seems that Nomad has lost the battle as both Telecom Plus and Mauritius Telecom have updated their websites with their new prices.
The normal MyT package is now Rs 750 + VAT (previously it was offered at Rs 990 + VAT). This is for 256kbit/s and 1Gb of “garantie d’usage”. In today’s difficult times, Rs 240 + VAT of savings is not bad at all.
The normal Wanadoo ADSL package (garanteed 128kbit/s access) is also offered at Rs 750 + VAT. Personally, I prefer the MyT offer because of the Wifi connection but you may want (you bloody pirate 
) a garanteed bandwidth…
No price decrease at all! The normal Nomad Home (garanteed 128kbit/s access) is still being offered at Rs 890 + VAT. Of course, Nomad is also available at 64kbit/s at only Rs 550 + VAT.
Let’s see how Nomad reacts to these new offers…

nomad is offering free wireless optical mouse for new clients(first 500)
with all the bad publicity about nomad + now a price higher than telecom+… gonna be hard..
Unless they pull up special packages as they did uom students

Yes, it’s going to be tough for Nomad but they’ll have to decrease their price to keep up. This competition is beneficial for all of us…
Perhaps we’ll have our 2Mbit/s connection at Rs 500 per month in a not too distant future after all

well i hope the nomad guys will review their price..anyways..right now my nomad 128kbps come cheaper than the normal nomad 64kbps..that’s due to the 1 yr 50% discount offered to UoM students..hopefully that would decrease too..
however one point to note..
there was a period..that is just before the infotech..nomad connection was real crap..and it seems like it is better now..since i have not had any connection probs..anyways..am sure the price of MyT will fall as well..bt for now..my dad doesn’t wanna pay more :-s so i’ll have to stick with nomad for some more time..
At the infotech of last year..the company MTML claimed they would b launching their wireless internet offer in about a month..they said the same thing this year as well..and till now still nothing..
anyways..let’s c..
the internet prices in general are bound to decrease sooner or later..

for my 512.. it took about 2 years to move from 2500 to about 1500
we’ll have to wait see what “EASSy” does for Mauritius !

I don’t really know if MTML will be offering its ADSL for a much cheaper price than MT. I check MTNL’s site for india and i checked their tariffs. For ADSL 256k with no download limit they charge RS 949. I know that the indian currency has less value than the mauritian rupee but i was expecting better from MTML. Hope that they offer better prices in future for unlimited downloading.

But one thing you must think about.. its competition.. if MTML introduces ADSL in Mauritius, they should at least meet the price of telecom+ if not beat telecom+ price

Yes you are right. The competition would be very beneficial for us. Finally MT is getting a real competitor. Nomad doesnt count due to its high prices and its lame connection speed.

Let’s be reasonable:
What we all badly desire is an increase in speed, not a decrease in price.
Can anyone justify why the two packages 128K and 512K have still been offered for more than 3 years now? Anyone sure can afford spending an extra few hundred rupees. Why not double 128K to 256K while maintaining the same bloody price?

England ADSL 8Mb/s is 10Pound (Rs600)
France ADSL 20Mb/s is 9.90Euro (RS400)
India ADSL 2Mb/s is Rs700
Ireland ADSL 8Mb/s is 20Euro (Rs800)
Mauritius ADSL 1Mb/s is Rs6400 +vat
Please dont call our country ‘Cyber Island’ People will laugh at us.

There’s an explanation for the price. someone told me that it’s cause of the number of people among which the connection is shared. As you know, when you say 20Mbps ADSL, it’s not dedicated, no matter which ISP you use. In Europe and India, the number of people who pay for ADSL covers up the cost… some maths stuff, which makes that it’s possible to put a lower price and yet make a profit. Just try decreasing the price below SAFE tariff… you’re going to kill local ISP’s… Someone come up with a better solution…………………….. oh, SAFE’s price is going to go down next year with the end of MT’s monopoly on it…. then you can be sure it’s going to be a price war among all ISP’s.

Hey guys,guess this is a MYT community here ! Well everyone talkin abt speed ..bandwidth..connectivity blah blah blah,etc… Thers one thing i wanna know,is it true on MYT we can download only 1 GB which means i.e I download one movie on rapidhare n some clips n dats it ? i cant download anymore without my bills gettin screwed at the end of da month ??? Am currently usin Nomad for 1.5years n am really thinkin of changin to smethin better, i love downloads on P2Ps specially, so if anyne can just give me some advice what shud i choose whould be great , thanks u wonderful ppl.MA EMAIL IS ashvin16@hotmail.com

You are not billed for the excess usage - it’s just that the speed will not be guaranteed past the 1GB limit (I haven’t really seen it happen though)
However, I’ve noticed something when downloading torrents now. Torrents don’t work at all :/
I always get “connection closed by peer” which seems to be caused by MT restricting the connection. Torrents were working well just 2 weeks ago…Dunno if that’s happening to other myT users

These recent months MT has been pushing hard to grasp new subscribers again and what has happened is that after downloading your emails or some files…and these have exceeded 1 GB, the speed for downloading drops from 10~30KB/s to 0.15~4.25KB/s…what sucks more is that when you surf on the internet, the connection is worse than a 56K connection. You can’t surf nor download a 1 MB file. Yeah…no joke…you can check what I’m saying.
Anyway…long live our dear republic with all these “volers” that are sharing the astronomical profit that MT makes every year and are hampering the development. Don’t ask Sithanen to drop the price because this is the one source where a lot of money goes to the state.

I have been using nomad and due to reception problem they came to cancel my subscription and I’m pretty happy cOz myT is worth the price although it is a bit tough for student’s POcket….
But be beware those who have Windows Vista there is a connection problem…if you use your USB port to connect to your livebox then it will have some problems cause drivers for the usb connection on vista is not available yet.
You can get the driver for the wifi dongle also there ..4 vista

The MTML uses EVDO technology and gives 3 packages. The speed is 256-800 Kbps and the max theoretical is 2.4 Mbps. The price is quite affordable but for the unlimited package, pa facil sa; check sa rs 2999+ vat. lafaya non.

for the time being, I agree that MyT is the best.
But the future lies in 3.5G and 4G
MTML uses 2.5G/3G technology in the wireless phones: max: 2.4Mbps
Emtel uses 3.5G (HSDPA): max: 3.6Mbps
will soon go 4G with WiMax
Nomad uses 4G: WiMax: yes, they don’t seem to be very good currently. But mind you, this technology can go up to 100Mbps at maturity.
btw, ADSL2+ does 30Mbps max.

Hey lord_fx3 100MBs per sec………. wired fa ports offer 100mbps max, the newest wifi n offers about 53 mbs max…… and you are taking over 100mbps over a mobile network….. is that sense that you are talking?????? well i may be wrong either…. but i sincerely dont think that will happened as every wireless net is connected to a wired network…….
