Google Earth 4.0 has just been released for Linux. If you don’t already know, Google Earth is a fantastic desktop application which allows you to view the whole world using very high-resolution satellite images.
Google Earth works very well in my AMD64 Kubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake Linux even though it is a 32-bits applications which relies on a bunch of 32-bits libraries.
The 32-bits compatibility packages that I’ve installed fortunately provide whatever is needed for Google Earth to work properly. For your information, here are the packages I’ve installed:
ia32-libs
ia32-libs-gtk
ia32-libs-openoffice.org
lib32gcc1
lib32stdc++6
lib32z1
Google Earth is fantastic! Try it (don’t forget to read the docs) and you won’t be disappointed.

Yep.
Yesterday, I spent 1h browsing Quatre-Bornes… Of course, I found my house but I was so happy to recognise lots and lots of other buildings.
Google Earth is really one of the best apps I’ve ever seen

I’ve never used Nasa Whirl Wind which is a Windows only app. Google Earth, on the other hand, is multiplatform i.e. it works in my Linux box

I get problems with Google Earth
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data are now being written
to this text file:
/home/leonardo/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-13E8A385.txt
This bug report will be sent to Google automatically next time you run
Google Earth. Its data, which contains no personal information, will help
us correct problems without bothering you further. If you would rather
this info not be transmitted, please delete the above file before running
the program again. If you want bug reports to NEVER be sent, remove the
above ‘crashlogs’ directory’s read/write permissions.
which is the problem? :s

Hi Leocordero,
Google Earth requires a good 3D graphics adapter (Nvidia, ATI, etc). Make sure that your 3D drivers are properly installed. If it still doesn’t work, then have a look in crashlog-13E8A385.txt. In it, you’ll find the exact cause of the crash…
