John, Paul, Georges and Ringo must have thought about Pravin Jugnauth’s budget speech when they wrote Yellow Submarine…

It’s now official :

Mauritius is becoming a Duty Free Island

Duty has been decreased and, for many products, completely eliminated for lots and lots of imported products including clothing, food, jewellery, photographic equipment, audio visual equipment, lighting equipment etc.

The plan is to make Mauritius totally Duty Free in 4 years. The motivations for doing that (in addition to winning the next elections…) are (1) Attract more and more tourists going to Singapore and Dubai and, (2) Make all Mauritians get access to quality products at affordable prices :-)

Yes !

I can now clearly see my future Nikon D70 coming as well as my Apple PowerBook and my iPod ;-)
