Winning a Blogger of Honour award

22 November 2008 By Avinash Meetoo 10 Comments

Avish has just published the results of his blog survey in Mauritius and he has given me a Blogger of Honour award for (I quote) being one of the earliest Mauritian blogger still blogging. I hope I’ve not been given this award because I am old (as I still consider myself a young man even though I’m 35 ;-) )

In January 2007, I wrote a post with the title Why do I blog? In it I quoted Sam Ruby who wrote in 2002:

“So why do I blog? Because it works. It finds worthwhile things for me to read. It helps me refine and focus my thoughts and be more productive too. And most of all, [it] creates the opportunity to interact with more interesting people. That’s what’s in it for me.”

Thanks Avish both for the award and for having taken this excellent initiative :-)

    Congrats for the awards… :-)

Well, its true that the there are only a few bloggers left from the first generation of mauritian bloggers. Some of them blog, but on a irregular frequency, but they still do participate in blog discussions.

The one reason I don’t blog or have a website is because I don’t have anything to put there, and I think everyone who is the same situation as me should do the same instead of having emptyish blogs.

There are some people who do have interesting blogs and it’s a much better idea to participate on their blogs, and yours seems to be one great one – which is why I will lurk around to annoy you once in a while with my thoughts lol. Keep up the good work! :)

P.S. As for your blog design, why not make the background image static? It ain’t much but am a great fan of these ;)

Congrats again. No ofcourse its not coz you are old…infact I gave all the awards based on the votes but wanted to give one based on the dedication of the blogger and surely this blog satisfies the criteria :-) If I am not wrong this blog is more than 4 years old and I dunno any other Mauritian one who have this blogging dedication for so long. Blogging Rules ;-) Keep up the very nice posts.

    To Fluxy:

As far as I can see on my Mac using Safari, the background is static. It is not a plain colour though.

    To Avish:

Yeah. I started in March 2004 so therefore that would be 4 1/2 years of blogging. It has been a lot of fun and I’ve learned a lot.

Thanks for the nice words ;-)

As for blogging for four and a half years, I have to confess that I didn’t find it too tough. As a matter of fact, I love to communicate (too much for some…) and blogging is an excellent means to let others know what you think. Having comments and, therefore, “friends” is also an excellent bonus.

I am also fortunate to have a wife who is Internet-savvy and who understands the need for a blog i.e. I don’t have to justify the few hours spent per week every other day.
