    Hi Avinash,
Hope you remember me. I think we met when you came for training in Currimjee Jeewanjee and then I saw you in MCCI. Just discovered you blog.
Getting interested to make one of my own. Would need some help as I know little programming.
By the way how much time does it take per week.
    Good continuation.

  2. Hi Kailash,

Blogging is easy and does not require any programming skills. Just go on wordpress.com and start a blog.

As for the time required, I would say that it all depends on you and what you want to express!

there is something in the way you lecture that doesn’t make the module boring

had great fun in parallel and surprisingly, it was together with programming languages by favourite modules of the whole course.

was Really nice knowing someone like you
    All the best
    Cheers!

  5. Hi Vicks,

Thanks for the nice words. It’s true. I’m leaving the university. Don’t forget what’s truly important: “Never stop learning…”

  6. Rules says:

  7. What do you mean?

Noulakaz.net is my own domain. You can easily create your own blog on wordpress.com if you want.

  8. Rules says:

  9. Rules says:

can u help me plz?can u tel me how to make a weblog in wordpress appear in the google search results,i mean almost all main search engines can find anything on my weblog and place it under the results.
    thanks sir.

    my blog: http://www.lovvyrules.co.nr

  10. It’s easy. You only have to write blog entries which are interesting enough :-)

  11. Anonymous says:

Wow! Mr. Meetoo is very concerned about legals stuffs.

  12. Maybe it’s more about receiving a nice cheque from Google from time to time :-)

More seriously, it’s important to comply with whatever one has abided to whether knowingly or unknowingly (i.e. when one just clicks on the “I Agree” button without reading the legalese…)

  13. Hi Avinash,

I did a search on mauritian blogs and found yours… Nice blog :)

I also got the blogging virus since march 08. Just a beginner. I try to write daily articles on issues in which I’m interested in but it’s really challenging.

  14. Hello Sir,

I heard you resigned as lecturer. I think that you must have thought of a more interesting and challenging carrier. We have to move on in life. However, the department will miss a professional like you. I added your blog as blog roll in my blog. You can have a look at it. http://faardeen.wordpress.com. Anyway just wanted to know what you doing in life and wish you good luck sir. I have one question, actually I need a hosting. Can you request me which company is the best. I need PHP, MySQL, a domain name and a very high bandwidth together with at least 1GB of storage capacity. I found http://www.ixwebhosting.com for the expert plan costing $4.95 per month. If you have a more powerful servers let me know the link. Thank you.

  15. Hi Faardeen,

Yes I have stopped being a lecturer. I’ve founded my own company and expect to start operations by the end of the month. For hosting, I use Slicehost. It’s rather expensive but I get a virtual server on which I can pretty much do anything I want. Previously I was an ICDSoft customer.

  16. Hello,

Thats pretty cool of starting your own business. I’m pretty sure its mostly about development. I take a look at the Slicehost website. Its expensive and the less storage the company offers is too much for me. I think I will go with the IXwebhosting. Good luck for your business sir. Have a nice time.

    Cheers

  17. nice theme..
can i use this theme.. if i am to make a blog…
then how can i get the theme…

  18. Follow the link at the end of the page.

  19. Dear Sir, can u plz tell me how to sort my previous posts to a new page on the same blog? I already created the new page but cant shift those old posts to the new page? Please help me.. thanks

  20. Hi Lovvy,

I am not sure I understand. Sorting by what criteria? WordPress supports both posts and pages but, as far as I know, pages cannot contain posts.

    Tell me more.

  21. i have many posts on my home page in my blog. There are some posts which ressemble a lot and i want to separate them from the home page to a new page. But i cant see any options allowing me to do this task. Thanks in advance. Merry xmas and happy new year 2009. Enjoy..

  22. Hi Lovvy,

You need to understand that a blog (such as the one provided by wordpress.com) lists your posts chronologically from newest to oldest. You seem to have your nine newest posts displayed (which is the default configuration for WordPress.) You can change this from nine to, say, three (to only have your three newest posts displayed) in the settings (check in Settings / Reading)

  23. Michael says:

Hi avinash or should i say tonton? lol yea I related to you somehow. Im Jennifer’s cousin from her father’s, Christian, side. Im still at UOM 4th yr :\

Great Blog you here btw! :)

  24. Hi nephew ;-)

Thanks for the nice words. What are you doing at UoM?

  25. Hi,
I want to know if it is a good idea to trun off Orange Livebox Firewall. I already have a Zone alarm firewall. Thanks

  26. No. The Orange Livebox is powered by Linux and has an excellent firewall which will protect your extremely fragile Windows computer against all intrusions.

  27. Nitish says:

Hello..I am just finishing my last year of Electronics and Communications Engineering and am very interested to work in the IT network and security fields. But, firstly I am aware that I may have to do some professional courses. As for networking, I think that the CCNA Security course will be good. But I am not aware where in mauritius I may have this training. Also, I want to learn some linux…I have found the CompTia Linux+ at an institution but I think the RedHat one would be better. Can you please give me some advice on which courses will be perfect to start a career with and where can I do them in Mauritius? Thanks.

  28. Hi Nitish,

How come you don’t know that I have my own company providing excellent training courses in Linux, Java and very shortly Web Development?!?

As a matter of fact, a Linux Level 1 course is starting tomorrow morning at 9:00 and I’ll be the trainer.

  29. Nitish says:

My mistake…it was the first time I was tuning onto your blog…anyway…it is a very interesting blog. I will take contact soon for the course…

  30. Hi avinash,
Its the first time as well I heard about you.
I am very excited by your way of thinking and your intiatives, which is in line with what I think.

I have dropped you a mail this morning, hope you answer me.
I have create a brand new java web framework, component oriented, ajax all the stuffs. Also a tree model persistence framework. I want to put it opensource.
I am looking forward to meet you anytime you feel like, so that we can discuss about stuffs.

  31. Hi Kureem,

It’s only now I’m getting home :-) I’ll answer your email really soon!

  32. Hi,
I have myt 512kbps, i want to know my limit download usage.Thanks.

  33. Ask Mauritius Telecom :-)

  34. Hi… About RGSC, i am doing a project for one of the activities which are quite frequent there and i lack lots of information… i wanted to know whether u could help in some way…

  35. What do you need to know?

  36. Well what’s the title page? I can’t understand what should i write in that…

  37. What do you mean? What’s RGSC?

  38. Shasha says:

    Hello Mr Avinash,

i was looking for Web programming course when i found your blog.

can u please let me know if u or any other institiution in Mauritius can deliver
online courses for web programming or others.

thanking you in advance for any useful information you can give me

    Best Regards

    Shasha

  39. Hi Shasha,

My own company, Knowledge Seven Ltd, provides courses in Web development and, as a matter of fact, there is a Web Development with PHP & MySQL course starting on 16 November 2009 and which will run on five consecutive Mondays.

Feel free to contact me if you need additional information.

As you can see, this is a “normal” course i.e. it’s not an online course. It is possible that this course be run online in the future but this is not currently the case. I don’t know anyone in Mauritius running such courses 100% online. But there are surely a lot of international training institutions doing that. Use Google to find them.

  40. Pravin says:

    Hi Mr Avinash,

My name is Pravin and I have done my BSc in IT bt precisely in software development. Recently where am working they have given me some projects to complete. (it was already started by a company bt then handed over to us incomplete and i have to complete them). They are all done in PHP and i no nothng abt PHP. Can u help me please?? They told me to download PHP and PHPMyAdmin to acces the database bt unfortunately and unable to do so.

    Help me please.

Thanking you for your precious time and help.

  41. Your best bet is to read a good book on PHP (say PHP and MySQL web development by Luke Welling and Laura Thomson) and find solutions to the exercises given in the book. From your comment, I gather you’ll need the Apache web server, PHP, MySQL and phpMyAdmin. All of those are open source products and are readily available for all platforms…

… alternatively, you can come and follow my course on Web Development with PHP and MySQL which is starting today :-)

  42. downloadhunter says:

eski to kapav dir mwa coman pu config utorrent pu mru.Mo servu myT 512 ek mne fini ouvert mo port mais mo max download speed C 30kbps.li normale da?
    Thanks

  43. Normal? 30 kilobits/s ou 30 kilobytes/s? Dans premier cas, non. Dans deuxième cas, disons :-)

  44. downloadhunter says:

Err mo suposer ki li en kilobits.mne sanz imP settings et aster mo ggn 50kbps par la. Mais eski li kav al pli vite?
    Merci pu to reponse

  45. ADSL 512 = 512 kilobits/s

Donc si to pe gagne 50 kilobits/s, to pe gagne zis 10% to bandwidth. Par contre, si to pe gagne 50 kilobytes/s (1 byte = 8 bits) donc, a ce moment la, pas capav plaigner :-)

  46. downloadhunter says:

    ok.Merci

  47. Meenakshi says:

Hello, sir! I like your blog very much. Can u help me please with my query? I have applied for Myt connection and i am waiting for it.I wanted to ask u if i could connect someone’s MyT connection for the internet into my laptop because i need to work regularly on the internet. i will be really thankful if u reply to my query as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

  48. Of course, you can connect to someone’s wireless network if (i) you have the proper password (ii) he/she has pressed the REG button on his/her Livebox while you attempt to connect and (iii) he/she is happy with that :-)

  49. lol.. “he/she is happy with that”!!! thats the funny part.. im surfing on your blog almost everyday, but u appear to be idle !! no new posts at all.. i like to read your blog :-)

plz post new stuffs, thanks… ;-)

  50. I’ll post something today. Promised :-)

  55. premchand says:

Hi Mr Avinash, seen your blog ,very interesting .But one thing that really caught me is the photograph of an Amiga 500.I got an A1200 which I used for video titling but now th PC can be harnessed to do it by some soft . There is one thing that linux users does not talk
about is the multimedia part of it. Can we not edit some pictures ,draw, edit some video footage etc?I think we can,but rarely someone can talk about it.When we talk Linux ,some words like lan, router ,sudo, console, kernel, compile, which certainly drive away newcomers.I think that you can do something in this field because you know what an amiga is.

  56. You’re 100% right, @premchand.

We should talk more about using Linux as a desktop OS because, well, most people tend to focus on the server aspects.

    Thanks for this excellent suggestion.

  57. premchand says:

Thanks Mr Avinash for replying.I would to know which Linux distribution will be perfect for a beginner.

  58. I think Ubuntu or Mint are very good distributions for beginners. Fedora is nice too.

    At home, I use Mint.

  59. premchand says:

Thanks once more Mr Avinash for the help for choosing the Linux distribution .
I install the Ubuntu distro, but one thing I would like to know how to install drivers end with th “run” extension, like the nvidia driver named “NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.44.run”

  60. You should open a terminal and execute the file with “sudo sh filename”

But I should say that Ubuntu supports restricted drivers (for Nvidia graphics cards namely) and you should really use those in preference…

h avinash. it is really nice to have you here sharing your valuable knowledge . i have a huawei e 220 modem which i used in uk. there i could connect to mobile broadband using various sim. here i don’t have the setting s so that i can use my orange sim. there is displayed “wcdma cell+” but i cant connect to the internet . i hope u will guide me through
    thanks

  63. Hi Ashreety,

Unfortunately, I don’t know a lot about Orange because I am an Emtel user
myself. Maybe someone else can help?

Have you read http://www.orange-business.mu/mobile-faqs/ or called the
    Orange people and ask?

  65. tikensoup says:

    Hello Avinash,

    Just being curious, why write
Email = avinash AT noulakaz DOT net
Google Talk = avinash AT noulakaz DOT net
Instead of using the actual characters?
Not adequate for a copy paste freak…

  66. That’s precisely the reason… The most known copy paste freaks are spammers :-)

  67. tikensoup says:

:) Makes sense. You could have posted it as a picture though… More aesthetical… ;p

  68. I don’t using images for such purposes. I like to be able to copy and paste emails (or anything else for that matter) from websites. Of course, here, the person doing that will have to “correct” the email address further but that’s quite straightforward.

To be frank, maybe I’ll just edit the text and change the obfuscated addresses to the real ones. Spammers already know all my email addresses and GMail has a bloody good spam filter :-)

  69. Arvin says:

    Hi Avinash,

I’d prefer to avoid giving away the fight against spammers so easily :(. Maybe your id is known to only a few spammers only but now its free to take. tikensoup are you a bot programmer? You’ve just achieved a coup..

  70. Yeah. But on the other hand, I’ve been using that email for ages now (more than 7 years) and, since I get thousands and thousands of spam filtered by Gmail, I guess all spammers in the world know that.

And, now that I think of it, if more spammers send spam to me and some get through Google’s spam filter, I am in a position to help Google make its spam filter better just by clicking on Report Spam :-)
