Liverpool has two new backup goalkeepers: Armin Pecsi (GK) and Freddie Woodman (GK). They are going to supplement our two world-class goalkeepers: Alisson Becker (GK) and Giorgi Mamardashvili (GK).
Three new defenders have come: Jeremie Frimpong (RB), Milos Kerkez (LB) and Giovanni Leoni (CB). They are young and were established players in their respective teams before coming to Liverpool (Bayer Leverkusen, Bournemouth and Parma) and are full internationals. Unfortunately, the transfer of Marc Guéhi (CB), who was poised to join from Crystal Palace, collapsed at the last minute. A deal was agreed but the club could not find a replacement. I suppose Liverpool will wait until January before getting him. I have a feeling that Giovanni Leoni (CB) will surprise a lot of people, including myself.
I need to pinch myself when I look at the attacking players we got in this transfer window: Florian Wirtz (AM), Alexander Isak (CF) and Hugo Ekitike (CF). They are all world-class players and still very young. If everything goes as planned, they will be formidable players for Liverpool for years to come.
Within a few weeks, these players have left Liverpool: Ben Doak (RW), Caoimhin Kelleher (GK), Darwin Núñez (CF), Jarell Quansah (CB), Luis Diaz (LW), Nathaniel Phillips (CB), Ranel Young (RW), Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) and Tyler Morton (DM). Among them are so many familiar names and it will take a while to forget them.
These players have been released by Liverpool and, hopefully, they will succeed in other clubs and, maybe, at lower levels: Dominic Corness (CM), Harry Evers (LB), Jacob Poytress (GK), Jakub Ojrzynski (GK), Lee Jonas (CB), Louis Enahoro-Marcus (CB) and Reece Trueman (GK).
The following players are still Liverpool players but will spend 2025-2026 on loan elsewhere: Harvey Davies (GK), Harvey Elliott (AM), Isaac Mabaya (RB), James Norris (LB), Konstantinos Tsimikas (LB), Lewis Koumas (LW), Owen Beck (LB) and Vitezslav Jaros (GK). Here also are familiar names like Harvey Elliott and Konstantinos Tsimikas.
A special thought for Diogo Jota (CF) who tragically passed away a few months ago. In all, 25 players, who were (more or less) in the team last year, have left.
As the transfer window closes, Liverpool has spent £415m, received £187m as transfer fees which means that the net spend of the club is £228m. And, this is still less than Arsenal’s net spend this year which is £246m. Very Interesting.
Thanks for BT3 on Twitter/X for the illustration images. He released two versions: one with Marc Ghéhi (below) when everyone thought that the transfer would go through and one without him (above). I guess we’ll have to wait until January to see Marc Ghéhi in a red shirt…
