"BIG PROBLEM" lol...

Guillem is right, the modem costs around Rs5200+VAT. I do have a PDA with a built in HSDPA modem but emtel won't offer the same internet services through SIM. HSDPA on modem v/s HSDPA on SIM has a huge price gap i guess.. For those who already have the modem, there should have been some ways to provide broadband services through handheld device with the same price scheme as the HUAEI modem but who cares...

Because they sell their modem 5200 Rs. + VAT. It's a bit expensive for a possibly non-working web solution.
I finally configured my Ps3 with Ubuntu Inprepid Ibex 8.10 and there's some kind of configuration tool who can set up mobile network. There's although a list of countries (mauritius included) and a list of provider, EMTEL is one of them.

I will maybe give it a try if my banking account allow it ;)

Hi Ashish,

I guess that technically everything is possible. But will Mauritian subscribers be ready to pay? Don't forget that Mauritius is thousands of km from Europe and the USA... and this is, according to me, why ADSL is so expensive here compared to the prices there...

Why broadband is so poor in Mauritius although there is only very few the subscribers. Virgin Uk has just launched its 50Mbps service. Can anyone in the government work to have at least 2 Mbps for resident subscribers. Moi mo dire mette france telecom dehors et gouvernement upgrade ca network la. Getting 5MBps in Mauritius is still possible but no one wants to improve the quality at the higher level. Anyone who knows Dulull mette ca dans so lalete. faire li travail unpeu. Or does he want commission!!
